

Richard N. Franks, 88, of Sun City, AZ passed away Tuesday, August 29, 2017. He was born June 13, 1929 in Ft.Wayne, IN, son of the late Newell A Franks and Grace D (Disler) Franks. Richard graduated from Sturgis High School with the class of 1947. He was a veteran in the US Marine Corps and was stationed at Camp La June and at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. from 1947-1949. Richard married Jean P. Long on July 9, 1949. He worked at Burr Oak Tool & Gauge for 49 years with a brief break to work with the Kalamazoo, MI police force while attending Western Michigan University. Richard and Jean also owned Sturgis Library Products. He was very active with the Boys Scouts in Michigan – even taking his troop to a Jamboree in California, and also with Gideon’s in both Michigan and Arizona, attending different churches and giving lectures. Both he and Jean enjoyed cruises and traveling around the world.
Richard is survived by his three children, Deborah (Vern) Sulcs, Linda Franks, Michael (Rita)Franks; seven grandchildren, Athena (Jeff)Anderson, Diedra (Nick) Fox, Matthew Sulcs, Luke Franks, Vince Franks, Melissa Franks, Michelle (Jamie)Barbaman; eight great grandchildren, Zachary (Bekkah)Lafferty, Autumn (Mark)Sernas, Alex(Susie)Fox, Brooke Fox, Shelby Cantrell, Abigail Anderson, Hunter Anderson, Philip Anderson; three great-great grandchildren, Liam Fox, Veronica Sulcs, and Audrina Sernas. He was preceded in death by children, Richard Franks, and Janet Franks; brother, Tom Franks.

Visitation will be at Sunland Mortuary at 11AM-12PM, Friday, September 1. Interment will be at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Sturgis, MI with Hackman Funeral Home in Sturgis arranging. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Sunland Mortuary & Memorial Park in Sun City, AZ.
