

Rose Ann (Ruvolo) Russo was born 8/7/1923 in Omaha, NE to Antonio and Jennie Ruvolo who preceded her in death. She was named Rosa, but everyone called her Rosie.
She passed away peacefully on 1/29/2012 in Sun City, Arizona in the comfort of her devoted husband of 69 years, Sam and her three children, Palma Mitzel of Sun City, AZ, Sam Russo (Carol) of Mesquite, NV, and Elena Webster (Doug) of Omaha, NE. She has 10 grand children and 12 great grandchildren.
Rose graduated Tech High School two years early at the age of 16. After graduating high school she worked at Boys Town typing over 1200 envelopes a day to keep her job. She met Sam Russo at a high school dance held at the Music Box during a ladies choice song. Sam and Rose married in 1942. Sam was deployed to serve in World War II and Rose had their first daughter, Palma, while he was away. Rose worked while her mother took care of Palma and saved enough money by the time Sam returned, to purchase a home and car for the family.
She worked for the US Army Corps of Engineers for 34 years and ended her career working for the Colonels and Generals as an Executive Secretary. When she and Sam retired in 1979, they moved to Arizona. For one year she was a secretary to two Arizona State Representatives. She loved to cook and instilled in her children and grandchildren her cooking ability. Rose had 4 shoeboxes full of recipes she made for her friends and family. She loved betting on the horse races and was an excellent handicapper. There was a mile race track in Omaha, AKSARBEN, where you could find her and Sam on Saturdays. Memberships include Catholic Daughters of Saint Clement of Rome, The Women’s Club, American Legion Auxiliary, Elks Club Auxiliary, Shamrock Club, Sun City Hospitality Club, and an active member of St. Clement of Rome Catholic Church. She was a Sun City Pom for seven years. After that, she performed a dance duo with her daughter, Palma for four years called “Dawn to Dusk.” They performed 30 shows annually. One year she won first prize doing the Charleston in the Senior Idol Competition. Rose will always be deeply loved and greatly missed. Visitation will be held Friday February 3, 2012 at 4:00pm with Rosary following at 5:00pm at Sunland Mortuary. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Clement of Rome Catholic Church Saturday February 4, 2012 at 10:00am and Committal service at Sunland Cemetery at 11:00am.
