

Born March 1, 1923, in Buffalo, New York, he was the son of Roy and Mary (Armstrong) Zimmerman. In addition to Buffalo, he resided in Tonawanda, N.Y., Mt. Laurel, N.J. and Lansdale, PA prior to retiring in Sun City West, Arizona.
He graduated from Bennett High School and received his Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from the State of New York University (SUNY) at Buffalo and worked as a Development Engineer in the abrasives industry. Roy Edward served his country as a B-24 navigator in the Army Air Corps (Air Force) from 1943-1946 and attained the rank of 2nd Lieutenant.
Preceding him in death are his parents, a sister, Martha Groben, wife of 45 years, Nancy (Horlein) and daughter, Gretchen Goodfellow.
Surviving him are his son, Kurt (Dale Dougherty Zimmerman), Phoenix; daughter, Heidi Kirby (Richard), Leesburg, VA; and 7 grandchildren, Krista VanAntwerp (Matt), Joshua Goldstein, Brian Zimmerman (Kassie), Kelli Wert (Derek), Matthew Holcomb, Katrina Kirby and McKenna Kirby; 3 great grandchildren, Haidyn, Leeum and Finlee Wert; 5 nieces, Debbie Cooke (Dick), Lisa Horlein, Amy Lohendorf (Joel), Roxanne Stoutner, Ann Staed (Mike) and 3 nephews, Paul Eldridge (Tammy), Phil Groben (Sandy) and Paul Groben(Jeanie).
Funeral service will be held at 1:00pm, March 20, 2017 at Sunland Mortuary Lakeside Chapel, Sun City. Interment will follow.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Fund and the American Heart Association .
