Rula Rompella (nee Rodanthe Papamatheakis) was born October 1st, 1947 in Heraklion, Crete, Greece. Rula went home to be with the Lord on February 15th, 2024, after a lengthy battle with cancer. She passed away at home, surrounded by her loving family. Rula was the first in her family to arrive in America and become a citizen. This opened up doors for many of her relatives to live the American dream. She was extremely proud of her heritage, of the beauty of her homeland and its people and cuisine, and was sure to let everyone she encountered know.
The loves of her life were her children and grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all her nieces and nephews. The children in her family brought her the greatest joy. Rula is survived by her daughter, Pamela Rompella-Riggin (Kenneth), her son, Peter Rompella, eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, her brothers, Emmanuel (Voula) Papamatheakis and George (Bonnie) Papas, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends--including a very special niece, Stefania (Maridaki) Papamatheakis.
Rula is preceded in death by her mother, Stavroula (Rasidakis) Papamatheakis, father, Dimitrios Papamatheakis, and great-grandson, Ethan Christopher Manna.
