Selma Ruth Jones was born Feb 1, 1915 was born at home in South Bend IN
to Helen and Ernest Jones, and as an only child. She lived a life of service and giving. Selma graduated from the University of Toledo in 1936, where she was a member of Tau Delta Sigma sorority. She worked as a Home Economist for Westinghouse after WWII demonstrating the first microwave ovens, followed by a 25 year career with Toledo Public schools as a business teacher of typing and shorthand. In her free time she enjoyed playing bridge, bowling, traveling, and especially volunteering for the Toledo Repertoire Theatre as a costume designer.
Selma retired to Sun City West, AZ in the early 70’s and became an active volunteer with her church- Shepherd of the Hills, UMC and the local Salvation Army where she helped many children go back to school in new clothes, many made by her hands. She will be missed greatly by her friends and family and especially Lettie Reyes, Ruth Swearingen, Terri Beck, Mrs. Clark O. Thornton, and her children, whom she treated as her own: Bill (her godson) & Tom Thornton, Mary Thornton Boothe and Ann Thornton Field.
Services will be held 11/19/2010 10:30 Shepherd of the Hills United Methodist Church 13658 West Meeker Blvd, Sun City Arizona 85375.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Salvation Army or Hospice.
