He leaves his wife, Edna, two children: Michael of Scottsdale, Arizona and Judy (Hornacek) Risenburg of New York City. He had 3 grandchildren and 2 step-sons that he was very close to, Rich of Black Diamond, Washington and Mike of Syracuse, Utah.
Steve had three loves in his life: God, his family and baseball. Steve's parents took him to church as an infant and he continued to attend throughout his life.
Steve was drafted into the military in 1943, serving in the Air Force as a radio man and waist gunner. From his base in Italy, he flew 30 dangerous missions over enemy territory. He was discharged as a Technical Sargent in 1945. Arriving home, Steve pursued his love of baseball. He was selected for AAA with a major league organization. He was a pitcher and also played center field because his batting average was over 300. Pitching one day he badly damaged his right shoulder. Unfortunately, that ended his baseball career.
He was married, had his family, and retired from the grocery business after 30 years. Steve and Edna met after they were both retired, and had 30 wonderful years of marriage, doing a great deal of traveling.
Steve was a people person, and he never met a stranger. He will be sorely missed by everyone who knew him.
A chapel funeral service for Steven will be held Wednesday, June 29, 2022 from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM at Sunland Mortuary Lakeside Chapel, 15826 Del Webb Blvd., Sun City, AZ.
Steven will be laid to rest in Sunland Memorial Park Garden of Gethsemane, Sun City, AZ.
