

She was born in Phoenix, Arizona on December 2, 1935 to James and Marguerite (Brereton) Shelly. She grew up on a farm in central Tempe, AZ and graduated from Tempe High School. She attended the University of Arizona, was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority, and earned her education degree in 1957. Shortly after graduating, she married Fletcher "Woody" K Wood, and taught elementary students around the world while Woody honorably served in the US Air Force. After Woody’s retirement they returned to Roy Utah, eventually settling in Kanab where they were active members of the United Church of Kanab-Fredonia. Susan enjoyed exploring the natural beauty in and around Kanab, and she was an amazing cook and an avid gardener. She was very active in sewing circles throughout her life, and as an accomplished seamstress she spent many hours sharing her passion with anyone who wanted to learn.
Susan is preceded in death by her husband Fletcher K Wood, her parents, sister Jacqueline Lindauer, brothers Patrick and James Shelly, and nephew Paul Shelly. She is survived by her sister-in-law Carolyn Shelly, nieces Shawnalea Shelly and Susan Lindauer, and nephews Patrick Shelly and John Lindauer III.
Graveside services will be held at Kanab City Cemetery on September 30, 2024. Arrangements made with Mosdell Mortuary of Kanab.
