

Charles William Frakes, 70, of El Mirage, AZ and formerly of Kansas City, KS, St. Joseph, MO, and Rawlins, WY, passed away on June 27, 2012 at Boswell Medical Center, located in Peoria, AZ. Funeral services will be held at 11 am Tuesday, July 10, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 15915 West 143rd Street Olathe, KS. Burial will follow at Antioch Cemetery, Spring Hill, KS. Visitation will begin at 10 am prior to services at the church. Charles was born May 12, 1942 in Yates Center, KS to Eugene C. and Wanda Leona (Burns) Frakes. Charles dedicated 45 years of his life to church, family, and the Scouting program. He assisted numerous boys in achieving the rank of Eagle Scout, Scouting's highest rank, and invested countless hours of work to serve and raise funds for the BSA. Charles was recognized by the Trapper Trails Council of the BSA with the District Award of Merit and the Silver Beaver Award, the council's highest honor for volunteers. He leaves a legacy of love, strength and commitment to his family and friends. He was proud, dedicated, and loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He will be deeply missed by all who were touched by his love, kindness, and laughter.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Carolyn Frakes, his daughter, Dawn Kellogg; his brother, Ronnie Frakes; and his sister, Rebecca Frakes. Charles is survived by his children: Jeff and Susan Lanning of St. Joseph, MO; Greg and Mandy Frakes of Gillette, WY; Tracy Frakes of Surprise, AZ; John and Amy Frakes of Washington, DC; Jared and Mandy Frakes of Rawlings, WY; Ryan Kellogg of Omaha, NB; Audrey and Gerry King of Decorah, IA; Amy Frakes and Kimi Frakes of El Mirage, AZ; his five granddaughters: Amber, Ashlei, Christy, Abby, and Katelyn; nine grandsons: Ryan, Kevin, Cody, John, Christopher, Ethan, Brett, Dean, and Ethan; and five great-granddaughters: Maddie, Braelynn, Isabella, Elianna, and Annaliese; his brother, Wayne and Carolyn Frakes of Quenemo, KS; his sisters: Sally and Hap Cordell of Gardner, KS and Cindy Frakes and Tammy Herbert of Kansas City, KS. He will also be missed as a father by the Crumb, Dinning and Hurt families of St. Joseph, MO; and by Grand and Stuart Ries, Scott Newbrough, Jennifer Jaramillo, and Jack Chang.
