With a profound sense of loss and cherished memories, we announce the passing of Claude Rose on Thanksgiving Day, November 28, 2024. Claude departed peacefully at his home in Peoria, AZ, with his devoted wife, Linda Rose, by his side. Born on July 4, 1936, in Paris, France, Claude was the eldest child of Rose (Rosalind) and Douglas (Dezo) Rose.
Claude's life was a testament to resilience, love, and an insatiable curiosity for the world. His early years were shaped by humble beginnings and extraordinary challenges, escaping France during World War II with his parents as a young child. The family journeyed through Spain and boarded one of the last ships, intending to reach Venezuela but instead arriving in Cuba. There, Claude attended a one-room schoolhouse where he first learned Spanish before immigrating to the United States and mastering English. His education took him from Brooklyn Technical High School to the University of Miami and eventually to Carnegie Tech in Pittsburgh, where he earned a BS in Physics in 1959.
Throughout his life, Claude exemplified dedication to service and community. He trained with the Army Reserves and built a career that spanned roles in the aerospace industry, integrated circuit sales for space programs, and working alongside his father in the family business in Pennsylvania. Claude's work also brought him to Long Island and California, where he eventually met the love of his life, Linda. They married on April 5, 1981, sharing decades of adventures, laughter, and love.
Claude and Linda's travels took them around the globe—cruising, sailing, and exploring new destinations with friends. Beyond his adventures, Claude was a man of intellect and warmth, deeply passionate about technology, economics, and understanding the world through thoughtful discussions. His active nature shone through in his love of biking, walking, and playing chess with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, creating cherished family moments. Even in his later years, Claude remained remarkably spirited and agile, often leaving others in his wake during lively walks or climbing play structures with his great-grandchildren, bringing joy and inspiration to those around him.
Claude is lovingly remembered by his wife, Linda; his children and stepchildren: Debbie Glincher (Brad), Sandy Jensen (Michael), David Rose, Colleen Judge (Bill), Joseph Clancy (Missy), Mary Chris Clancy, and Cathy Ann Doyle (Roger). He also leaves behind eight grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and his brothers, Michael Rose (Marty) and Joe Perez (Shirley). Each relationship was carefully nurtured, with Claude always welcoming new and extended family members with open arms, knowing that family was defined by love, not solely by blood. His embrace extended far and wide, imbuing his entire family with a legacy of love and generosity.
Born on our nation’s birthday and leaving us on Thanksgiving Day, Claude’s life was a profound celebration of appreciation and humility. Even as he battled the cruel effects of dementia and Alzheimer’s, his enduring gratitude shone through, thanking Linda for even the smallest acts of care. His resilience, warmth, and kindness left an indelible mark on all who knew him.
Claude’s memorial service will be held at Sunland Memorial Park in Sun City, AZ, at 12 noon on December 13, 2024. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of the Valley (www.hov.org or 602-530-6992), honoring the compassionate care that supported him in his final days.
As we say goodbye, we celebrate Claude’s remarkable journey, his unyielding love, and the wisdom he shared so freely. His memory will forever inspire us to live with curiosity, gratitude, and an open heart.
