Eugene “Gene” Maione of Surprise, AZ (formerly of Cheyenne, WY) passed away peacefully surrounded by family on August 18, 2024 in Scottsdale, AZ. He was born on March 17, 1943 in West Palm Beach, FL and grew up in East Orange, NJ.

He graduated from Clifford J. Scott High School in 1962. After high school, he spent time working on Wall Street in New York City before he chose to attend Powell Community College, Powell, WY where he received an AA degree in May of 1967. In January of 1968, he enlisted in the US Army and proudly served his country in the Vietnam War.

After returning from Vietnam in August 1970, he attended the University of Wyoming, Laramie, WY, where he graduated with a BA in Construction Management in 1972. He then married the love of his life Margaret Burge, on November 25, 1972. The newlyweds relocated to New Jersey to manage the Maione family construction company, Alumagene Construction for the next 20 years. While living in New Jersey, Gene and Margaret welcomed the births of their two daughters, Megan and Genna.

In 1992, Gene and Margaret moved to Cheyenne, Wyoming where he continued his Construction Management career. He oversaw the construction of various imperative buildings along the Front Range including the United States Post Office in Cheyenne, WY and the Denver International Airport In Denver, CO among many others.

Gene retired from construction management in 2007 and went on to obtain his Wyoming Real Estate License in 2008. He was associated with several realities in Cheyenne and enjoyed selling properties for a number of years until his wife, Margaret, retired in 2013. In 2014, they started splitting their time between Wyoming and Surprise, AZ.

Since his youth, Gene was passionate about cars. Over the course of his life he restored both, a 1928 Ford Model A Tudor and a 1947 Ford convertible into street rods. Gene won many awards at various car shows with the 1928 and the 1947. In 2004, the 1947 was featured in Street Rod Builder Magazine. Besides cars, he also enjoyed cheering on the Wyoming Cowboys, the New York Giants, the Yankees, and the Buffalo Bills.

He is preceded in death by his parents Eugene Maione, Geraldine Maione, brother, John Maione and nephew, Christopher Maione.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years Margaret Maione, daughters Megan Maione and Genna Messmer (Ray) grandsons, Emery, George and Rainer Messmer, sister, Phyllis Dalglish (Robert), nephews Robert Dalglish II (Chrissy) and Johnathan (Lauren) Maione as well as many extended family members.

The family is planning a celebration of Gene’s life at a future date.
