Beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Floyd J. Gallo, passed away peacefully on March 4, 2025. He was a devoted husband to JoAnn for over 35 years.
Floyd’s life was defined by his unwavering commitment to service and integrity. He honorably served in the United States Air Force as a Tactical Maintenance Aircraft Specialist before dabbling at the United States Post Office. Deciding he had more to offer, Floyd embarked on a distinguished career with the Philadelphia Police Department. A proud graduate of Class 175 in 1965, Floyd served in patrol before being promoted to Detective in 1970. He spent much of his career in the Homicide Division, where he worked tirelessly from 1974 until his retirement in 1991. Deciding retirement was not ready for him, Floyd embarked on his final career as a Probation Officer. He had been a proud member of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 5 and Custodes Pacis Lodge 2085 for over 50 years.
Beyond his professional achievements, Floyd was known for his belief in God and in the importance of self-reflection and loyalty. He lived by the values of admitting one’s mistakes, striving for self-improvement, and always seeking the good in others. To him, trust was sacred and reserved for the very few who truly earned it.
Upon retiring, Floyd embraced his new role as a “Gentleman Farmer,” finding joy in the simplicity of life. Whether tending to his garden alongside JoAnn or enjoying walks at home, Floyd found peace in nature. He was also an avid traveler, with a deep appreciation for Maine, Arizona, and the Presidential Libraries he visited. The mountains, in particular, held special significance for him, reminding him that every problem, no matter how large, was ultimately small. Despite his love for adventure, Floyd kept a promise he made to himself after his military service: he would never fly again—a promise he upheld steadfastly from 1958 through 2025.
Floyd’s second joy was the Philadelphia Eagles. The joy of winning two Super Bowls in his lifetime is indescribable. We take solace in knowing he is gleefully discussing the last decade of Eagles wins with Charlie, his oldest partner in crime.
Floyd is survived by six children, twelve grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and numerous friends and extended family who were blessed to know him. He was preceded in death by both sisters, two children, and one granddaughter.
Services are schedule for June 2, 2025 in Delaware. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Association or Families Behind the Badge Children's Foundation.
