Gerald (“Gerry”) Edgar Anderson, 77, passed away on December 15, 2020, while being cared for at the Banner Boswell Medical Center in Sun City, AZ after experiencing a medical incident on November 19, 2020.
Gerry was born on July 17, 1943, in Bottineau, ND, to Edgar and Rita Anderson. Growing up alongside his younger brother Mark, it was during this time that Gerry developed his love of RV’s while on family camping trips. The Anderson family moved to Jamestown, ND, in 1958, and it was in High School where he met Sally Burke, the future Mrs. Anderson. Gerry and Sally were married in 1963, and were together until Sally’s passing in December of 2012. Gerry and Sally had two sons, Mitch and Ryan while living in Jamestown, ND, Bemidji, MN (or “Brrmidji” as he fondly would say), Wahpeton, ND and Fergus Falls, MN. Sunshine and employment led them to reside in Spring, TX, from 1990 – 2014.
In 2014, after Sally’s passing, Gerry purchased an RV: “The Coach”. Living and driving across the US in “the Coach” was a lifelong dream of his, and Gerry embraced it to the fullest. He traveled to over 30 States (he would have told you it was more than 40), and met many wonderful fellow RV’ers that remained friends. He was able to enjoy this lifestyle up until his passing. Not many can say they were able to enjoy their final days doing what they loved the most, and we take solace knowing Gerry was fortunate to be one of them.
Gerry was an avid golfer. “Hit ‘em long, straight and seldom” was his signature quote. He enjoyed countless golf trips with his friends, playing in “The Classic Cup”, and most of all loved playing golf with both his sons and grandsons when he could. Gerry was able to enjoy a trip of a lifetime to golf in Scotland in 2006, as well as played countless rounds where ever his travels would take him. Gerry loved the game so much, he spent the last three summers working at Grand View Lodge Resort and The Pines golf course, in Nisswa, MN. He cherished that time and the relationships with friends and family that came with it.
Throughout his life, from childhood to his passing, Gerry will be remembered for his love of family, enjoying time with friends, a quick (and sometimes dry) sense of humor, and his ability to tell stories - some that become more embellished the more times they were told. He loved receiving phone calls, exchanging texts and pictures with family and friends, and even became a Facebook regular in his later years to stay in touch.
He is proceeded in death by his parents, Edgar and Rita, his younger brother Mark, and his wife Sarah (Sally) Anderson.
Gerry is fondly remembered by his two loving sons, Mitch (Victoria) and Ryan (Amy) Anderson, grandsons Christopher and Tyler, and his very special friend and travel companion Bridget Kohl. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all who knew him.
At this time, the family is discussing a celebration of Gerry’s life to be held at a future date. In lieu of memorials, please do one or more of the following in Gerry’s honor: Hit a golf ball or play a round of golf (and hit from the Senior tees); raise a toast: either a shot of Crown Royal or enjoy a seltzer water with plenty of ice (both were Gerry favorites); watch an episode of Blue Bloods or NCIS (his absolute favorite TV shows); or go out to eat (sushi, walleye or a good steak) and don’t forget his favorite dessert: Crème Brûlée.
