James, affectionately known as "Jim," graced the lively city of Chicago, Illinois, with his presence from birth. His formative years were nurtured by the tender guidance of his parents, Alfred and Ruth Deering, alongside his brother Donald Deering. Together, they wove the fabric of a close-knit family, holding dear the values of kindness, honesty, and the significance of profound relationships.
Jim's journey began with service to his country as a chaplain's assistant in the Army—a testament to his unwavering commitment to faith and selfless service to others. Post-military, he honed his intellect, earning a business degree from DePaul University in Chicago. His education became the cornerstone, instilling in him not just a strong work ethic but also resilience and a profound love for life that would accompany him throughout his extraordinary journey.
Embarking on his professional career in Illinois, Jim left an indelible mark on Littlefuse Inc., a company that held a special place in his heart. His dedication and leadership in human resources played a pivotal role in the company's success for 30 years. Later in life, after a fruitful career, Jim gracefully retired and sought solace in the sun-drenched landscapes of Arizona.
Beyond his professional prowess, Jim was a cherished friend to many—a beacon of warmth, kindness, and authenticity. His heart, generous and compassionate, endeared him to those fortunate enough to call him a friend. Through shared laughter, profound wisdom, and steadfast support, he enriched the lives of those around him.
Jim reveled in life's simple pleasures—family gatherings, spirited games of canasta, and staying abreast of current events were among his cherished pastimes. His sharp intellect and witty sense of humor made him a delightful companion, creating an abundance of cherished memories for those fortunate enough to share his company.
Family stood as the bedrock of Jim's existence. He shared 28 years of marital bliss with his loving spouse, Jerline L. Deering. Survived by his adoring children—Michelle L. Rouse, Patti J. Albers, Steve B. Albers, and Suzy E. Albers—his grandchildren, Sierra L. Rouse and Grace A. Rouse, brought him immeasurable joy and pride. Jim also leaves behind his son-in-law, Roger Rouse, and a circle of extended family and friends.
Known for his kindness, unwavering compassion, sharp intellect, and fantastic sense of humor, Jim's impact on the lives of those around him was immeasurable. He was a beloved spouse, father, grandfather, mentor, dedicated family man, and cherished friend.
Jim gracefully passed away at his daughter's home, surrounded by the love and warmth that he had cultivated throughout his remarkable life. As we bid farewell, we take solace in knowing that he is now in heaven, reunited with his Maker, loved ones, and family who have gone before him. May he rest in eternal peace.
A heartfelt memorial service commemorating the life of James Alfred Deering will take place on February 23rd, 2024, at 12:30 pm at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, situated at 23029 N Cave Creek Rd, Phoenix, AZ 85024.
