The family of Randall Richard Hilker are sad to announce his passing following a yearlong battle with cancer. Randy left this world on Thursday, June 20, with family members by his side in his Surprise, Ariz. home.
Randy was born Feb. 11, 1956, in Denver, Colo., to Richard and Marianne Hilker, the second of four children. He grew up in Evergreen, Colo., and graduated from Evergreen Senior High School in 1974. As a student, he was involved in football and wrestling and served as student council president before graduating in 1974.
He had multiple careers over the years, from working in the ski industry to construction, home renovation and more, which allowed him to build and support his family, his greatest treasure. Randy worked as a ski instructor in Steamboat before starting a family, raising son Tyler and daughter Carli in Green Mountain, Colo.
He moved to the Phoenix, Ariz. area in the ‘90s, where he met and married Sherri and became a father to her children, Dale and Shara, from a previous marriage. The couple made their home in Surprise, and were married nearly 25 years. They shared a love of music and travel, often combining the two as “parrotheads” and fans of Jimmy Buffet. Together, they turned their backyard into an oasis where they hosted many get-togethers with family and friends.
Randy is survived by his wife, Sherri, son Tyler Hilker, daughter Carli (Hilker) Walter, stepson Dale Crompton, stepdaughter Shara (Crompton) Zastrow, brothers Ross and Rick Hilker, sister Richianne Sullivan, and 11 grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
