Sarah Louise (“Sallie”) Schnyder passed away peacefully at her residence in Surprise, Arizona, on August 13, 2020. She was 74 years old. Born to Bartley Warren and Kathryn Jane (Hall) Ball in St. Louis, Missouri, Sallie was raised in her native city, earning her high school diploma and a diploma in cosmetology and hairdressing, then working as an accounting clerk for the St. Louis Veteran’s Administration Medical Center. Sallie met and married the love of her life, USAF Captain Michael David Schnyder, in 1985 in St. Louis, then moved with Michael to Sacramento, spending most of their nearly 17 years of marriage
in California. In 1988, Sallie met her dearest friend, Peggy Kerr, in an algebra class at Sacramento City College; she went on to complete her bachelor’s degree in health services administration at Saint Mary’s College in 1998. Sallie was widowed at age 55. With the encouragement of loved ones, she developed a number of new interests, including Argentine tango, painting in watercolors, and international travel.
Friends and family will remember Sallie’s quick wit and wicked sense of humor (that often resulted in fits of laughter), her curiosity and wanderlust, keen eye for fashion & design, culinary skill, freely-shared opinions, and her devotion to her dogs, Alex (a Brittany spaniel), Max (a springer spaniel), and Emma (a cavalier King Charles spaniel). Sallie is survived by her siblings, Eugene Michael Leicht, Lori Klomstad, Sandy
Picchiottino, David, Linda, and Susan Ball; stepson Shawn Harper; and several nieces and nephews. A private service will be planned at Arlington National Cemetery in 2021, where Sallie will be inurned with her beloved Michael in the columbarium. Donations in Sallie’s memory may be made to Patriot Paws Service Dogs (patriotpaws.org) or to the Tese Foundation (tesefoundation.com).
