William Glen Johnson Sr. born September 04, 1949 Chicago, Illinois to Howard L. Johnson and Betty J. (nee Gossmeyer) who preceded him in death as well as a brother Joseph twin to Joyce A. (Wife of David L. Vanderpool), and a sister, Holly Jo Johnson. Bill passed on to Glory September 15, 2020 Sun City West, Arizona.
Bill was kind and generous to everyone he met. His smile and laugh would light up the room and his stories never grew old. He never met a stranger and always did the right thing, even when that was better for someone else than for himself.
His wisdom was earned through years of hard work. Yet somehow he always had time for family and to make you feel like you were the most important person in the world.
In his early life he became and worked as a butcher. At the age of 25 he then joined the US Navy. He was proud to have served his country having served during The Viet Nam War, Desert Storm, and The Gulf War and Afghanistan. The Navy formed the anti-air warfare department and William was the squadron air controller, he was the first air intercept controller to be assigned to any fighter squadron he was known as “Viking”. Bill served in The U.S. Navy for 20 years between October 29, 1974 to October 31, 1994. He retired OS1 (SW) San Diego, California.
While in The Navy he met and married Luzviminda Maria Ramos Raguro in Olongapo City, Republic Of The Philippines June 27, 1979. They had a daughter Sarah Maria who preceded her Father in death; she had 3 children; Liliana “Lili” I. Primero and a set of twins Philip A. Saenz Jr. and Rebecca J. Saenz. Bill also has a son William G. Johnson Jr. who has a daughter Emily A. and a son William Glen Johnson III. Bill’s children and grandchildren were his source of pride and joy. Bill is also survived by a daughter from a previous marriage Tammi K. Johnson, several nieces and nephews as well as many cousins and a number of friends ... “BJ” as he was known by friends.
Once retired the family moved to Arizona where Bill served with the VFW Chapter 20, DAV and the American Legion and was quite active with these organizations as well as being a member of The Masonic Lodge out of Branson, Mo.
I am proud to have been his sister and hope to be able to live up to his legacy.
