

It’s an end of an era. Annie Orr Squires passed away peacefully at the age of 96 at Cherington Place in Surrey, BC on September 21, 2020. She fought right to the end until the Lord brought her home.
The funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm on October 3, 2020 at First Memorial Fraser Heights Chapel. She will be laid to rest at Gardens of Gethsemani.
Annie (Nan) was born March 1, 1924 in Edinburgh Scotland. She graduated from High School with honors at the age of 16. She went on to college and received awards for achieving a 99% average for Shorthand, French and Typing.
She served in World War 2 in a clerical position as Leading Aircraft women from August, 1942 to June, 1945. She married a Canadian from Newfoundland who served for the Royal Navy and she immigrated to Canada as a war bride in 1947. She resided in Halifax, Nova Scotia until 1967 and then moved to Vancouver, British Columbia.
At the age of 49 she was widowed and at 50 she went back to school to the Vancouver Community College to upgrade her clerical skills so she could return to work for a few years working for Eaton’s Department Store and the Hudson Bay Company.
She received numerous awards for her many years of volunteer services from the Burnaby Parks & Recreation for her work with seniors.
She traveled extensively and loved returning to Scotland every two years until she was 80 to visit her family.
Annie was a very strong, independent, loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
Annie is predeceased by her husband Frederick R. Squires in 1972, her first born grandson David Squires in 2014, her parents, brothers and her best friend and sister Elizabeth Brannan.
She is survived by her daughters Maureen Gross and her husband John, Elizabeth (Liz) Bell and her husband Glenn, her son Robert (Bob) and his wife Cathy. Her 5 grandchildren, Christine and Andrea Gross, John Squires, his wife Chelsea, Linnea Bell (Barker) and her husband Clint and Cheryl Bell.
She also had 8 Great Grandchildren.
Thank you to all the staff, nurses, care aids from Cherington Place in Surrey for the amazing care they gave her for the past 2 ½ years. Thanks to Doctor Felix Yang for always being there and for respecting and understanding our wishes.

She will be Forever Loved and Never Forgotten.
