DEETER, Ardyis Daniel. Passed away in White Rock, BC, on November 4th, 2016, four months away from the grand age of 100. Art leaves to cherish him, one brother Ronald, three children Melvin (Judy), Burton (Lana) and Darlene; his precious nine grandchildren Christina (Arlo), Nicole, Travis (Liz), Matthew (Brittany), Scotty, Chad, Sera, Chelsea and Choal and seven treasured great-grandchildren Keaton, Evangeline, Audrey, Annalise, Cara, Natalie and Wyatt. He will also be remembered by numerous relatives and friends. Art was born in Irricana, Alberta and grew up on the farm together with four brothers. In his twenties, he caught the eye of the local teacher in the one-room schoolhouse and they were soon married. Beatrice, his devoted and loving wife of sixty-four years predeceased Art in 2010. Their first adventure together was to open Bea’s Lunch, a small café in Irricana. This venture was short-lived as the lights of Calgary beckoned, where they started their family. Art had various careers in Calgary, but it was during his time as a long-haul trucker that he fell in love with the Okanagan valley and settled the family in Kelowna. Art was soon employed by the City of Kelowna until his retirement at sixty-five. He was very involved with the Independent Order of Foresters fraternal organization and held numerous executive committee positions. He liked being involved and giving back to the community. After retirement, Art and Bea loved travelling in their motorhome. They would leave for several months each winter and travel the roads of North America. They also enjoyed ocean cruises. Later in retirement, they were relocated to South Surrey by Mel and Burt to be closer to family. Art was a loving and generous man who enjoyed life to the fullest. He will be greatly missed by all who came to know him. Special thanks to the staff at Chartwell Crescent Gardens for their kind and loving care. There will be no funeral service at his request. He will join Bea in the Kelowna City Cemetery. FIRST MEMORIAL - Fraser Heights Chapel, 14835 Fraser Highway, Surrey, B.C. are entrusted with the arrangements. A request was made for donations to the Kelowna Boys and Girls Club in lieu of flowers. The Kelowna club is now part of the Okanagan Boys and Girls Club located at 1434 Graham Street, P.O. Box 20222, Kelowna, B.C. V1Y 9H2. Telephone: 1-250-762-3914.
