

Arthur Joseph Harvey Papineau born on January 8th 1933 in Ottawa Ontario. Arthur was one of 12 children. Arthur was married at the young age of 17 when he married the love of his life Doris June Stephens. They have had a tumultuous love affair for over 64 years. Art and Doris would have celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on August 20 this year
Art and Doris moved to Ottawa after they tragically lost their family home in a fire in Wakefield Quebec Later Art and Doris decided to moved BC where they bought a home in Burnaby B.C. in 1962.
Arthur had a lengthy military career from He served on HMCS Carlton as Gunnery sergeant , Paratrooper, in the Princess Patricia Light Infantry , Black Watch with the Cameron Highlanders , The Vandoos, and the Rangers . During his military career he worked at the National film board then also worked in a grist mill while he lived in Wakefield. After moving to Burnaby he worked as a Long shoreman for many years.
In 1967 for the 100 Centennial, Art fulfilled his dream of canoeing across Canada with four of his buddies from the long shoring job, Art McCann, Derek Andrews, Gary Koch, and Walter Ryan. Living of the land and paddling the rivers and lakes across Canada. Onward to their destination in to Montreal Quebec Expo 67. The canoe was called Les Coureurs |De bois which means runners of the woods. This trip took approximately 80 days. When they Entered Montreal Expo 67 they were given a celebration as the first Voyagers to reach Expo67. They were presented with the key to the city by the Mayor of Montreal at that time the honorable Mayor Drapeau.
Art and Doris decided to move to the Yukon . Art fulfilled his dream of becoming a prospector staking many different claims and building a log cabin on their acreage. They enjoyed a very rustic life of pioneering and living off the land.
Art is survived by his loving wife Doris (Doe) as he often called her. His four children Linda Papineau. (Tanya Grelish and Rene Grelish). Deborah DeVos (Henry DeVos) Christine Maxwell and Lori Ludtke (Phil Agostino). Colleen Bujak(John Bujak)Jasmin Bujak Tony Bujak. Shane Papineau (Joanthon Shane jr, Robert, Chastity and Anita).
Art is truly loved and will be greatly missed by all his family and many friends and family. Art had the unique ability to capture the hearts of everyone he met. We will miss his great sense of humor and wonderful stories. He was a proud and loving man.
