August 24, 1931 – December 1, 2019
It is with sadness that we announce, Carl passed away quietly Sunday December 1, 2019, age 88 at Surrey, B.C. At his side was the love of his life and wife of 64 years Alice, son Barry, Daughter in law Lynda and his precious granddaughter Rachel. Carl was sadly predeceased by daughter Wendy.
Born Carl Ptashnick, in Hodgson, Manitoba, Carl was the youngest of 10 children. Carl was predeceased by brothers and sisters – Mike, John, Max, Frank, Paul, Felix, Tessie, Josephine and Joe.
Carl’s mother passed when Carl was 20 months old and Carl was raised by his siblings, particularly his 17 and 10 year old sisters Tessie and Josephine. He left the farm to live in Winnipeg at age 14 and moved to Vancouver in 1946.
Carl had a lifelong passion for all things mechanical and automotive. He was a car dealer, worked in the motorcycle business (Fred Deeley Harley Davidson), created and restored many custom and classic cars, vans and motorcycles. It was at Fred Deeley’s that Carl met his partner in life, Alice who just happened to live next door to the motorcycle shop.
He was a member of the late 40’s “21 Rebels” and the Royal City Rockets motorcycle clubs. Carl enjoyed riding his motorcycle well into his later years and particularly enjoyed family rides.
Carl was self-taught, a man of many talents and a successful businessman. He had a great sense of humour and was a great story teller. Most of all Carl was a devoted husband, father and proud grandfather.
Carl leaves behind many nieces and nephews, inlaws and friends.
“If we do a good job while we are here – We will be missed – Carl will be missed”
At Carl’s request, there will be no service. Family requests no flowers, kindly make a donation to the charity of your choice.
