Dalton was born to Fergus and Hester Jones on their Hazelmere Valley farm on May 29, 1924, delivered by a doctor in the Blaine, USA area. Dalton had 5 half-siblings: Sarah, Calista (Martin), Dale, Don (Clarice), and Alice.
He married the love of his life, Violet Haire, on September 9, 1950, Together the two of them took on the world, supporting each other through the happy and sad times.
Dalton attended Hall’s Prairie Elementary (a school that his father helped build and where Dalton made life-long friendships), and the high school in Cloverdale, subsequently graduating from Semiahmoo High School in 1942. Thereafter, he attended UBC but had to forego finishing his intended degree due to being needed back at the farm.
He worked his father’s Hazelmere farm before buying it in 1956 and continued to farm while working off the farm. He co-owned and ran Shepherd’s Meat Market which eventually became Dalton’s Meat Market in Cloverdale. Dalton then joined Woodward’s, New Westminster (and then their Guildford store) as a meatcutter in their food floor, retiring in 1980.
Community involvement was also very important to Dalton, wherein he was involved in the Cloverdale Ratepayers Association, local chapters of Rotary and the Jaycees, and was a Surrey Alderman over the course of 13 years. He was very proud of the Hazelmere community and was a vocal proponent that everyone should vote and involve themselves locally. Dalton also had a passion for golf, social and community events, and travel.
Dalton is predeceased by his siblings, his wife, Violet, daughter Donna (McGlashan) and grandchildren Christie and Liam. Dalton is survived by his children: Darryl (Toni), Philip (Holly), Sandra (Sean Averill), son-in-law Alan McGlashan, and 9 grandchildren: Jessica, Brennan, Dalton Jr., Conlan, Jamie, Morgan, Alden, Hayden and Leigh.
