Edna Esther Snider, went to be with her Heavenly Father, November 29, 2023, at age 104 in White Rock, BC. Edna was born in Gravelbourg, Saskatchewan on March 25, 1919. The second of fifteen children blessed to Fredrick and Mary Snider. In 1928 she moved to Macoun, Saskatchewan and attended school there with her siblings. After school she found work in Estevan, Saskatchewan and Winnipeg, Manitoba. During WWII she moved to Toronto, Ontario and assembled Enfield rifles and Bren Guns for the British Army. In 1948 she moved to Vancouver, BC and worked as a bookkeeper before joining the BC Telephone Company where she was employed as an operator, before moving into the payroll department.
Aunt Edna never married or had children but she helped raise her younger siblings and was a wonderful, in demand babysitter to her many nieces and nephews. For many years Edna organized a fun family picnic at Queen Elizabeth Park and never scolded the young ones that fell into the pond. She enjoyed vacationing with friends, travelling to Hawaii, Israel and Spain. She was always ready for a new adventure.
In 1978 she returned to Macoun, Saskatchewan to care for her elderly widowed father. After he passed, Edna moved back to Richmond, BC as she did not enjoy the cold Saskatchewan winters. She continued to be the fun babysitter for the next generation of great-nieces and nephews. In 2008 Edna moved out to White Rock into Evergreen Baptist Housing Society where she was rarely found in her apartment. Always on the go, she enjoyed games and outings out on the bus, often suggesting a new place to visit.
Edna served Jesus her entire life, faithfully attending church and teaching Sunday School. She had a heart for missions and supported several missionaries all over the world, some for decades.
She is survived by her siblings, Wilbur, Leona (Paul), Elda, Alice, Joyce and Carol (Al), many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and great-grandnieces and grand-nephews.
She was dearly loved and will be remembered fondly by her large extended family.
Services for Edna will be held at Victory Memorial Park Funeral Centre, 14831 28th Ave, Surrey, BC on Friday, December 8th, 2023. 10:30 AM family burial, 11:30 AM Memorial Service with lunch to follow.
