Youngberg, Edna Isabel April 18, 1919 – January 21, 2011 In loving memory of our wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, friend and community builder. Edna passed away at Peace Arch District Hospital on Friday, January 21st, 2011. Edna Youngberg, nee Macfarlane was a seventh generation Ottawa Valley “Scotch”. She was predeceased by brother Cameron and sisters, Ethel and Anne, and survived by brother, Reid Macfarlane. Edna was predeceased by her devoted husband Lorne William Youngberg and her beloved daughter Gail Youngberg. She is survived by her two younger children: Reid and Alexandra; two grand-children, Sean and Cameron McConnell and two great grand-children, Aurora and Edna McConnell. She was born in Turtleford, Saskatchewan, in 1919. Edna enrolled in a business diploma programme in Ontario after grade 13 which she later used in her career as finance manager of payroll and accounts payble in two hospitals. Mum loved to sing and was active in choirs across Quebec, Central Canada, Alberta and Ontario. She was also an accomplished violinist. Our father was in the mining business and Edna and Lorne worked in Malartic, Que. (gold), Kirkland Lake ON (gold), Atikokan, ON (iron ore), Perth, ON (blue marble), and Fort McMurray, Alta. (tar sands). In each of these communities Mum helped build United Churches, gardened, curled, played bridge, and sat on school boards to make sure her children and others had the best possible chance. Edna and Lorne retired to White Rock in 1979. They both loved being able to see the ocean from their front yard, and no longer falling on their bottoms in the ice and snow of the north. Mum loved Mount Baker and thought all was right with the world when she could see its snowy peaks. Edna was soon involved in singing in the United Church choir and making massive pots of soup for church luncheons. She loved gardening year round and was an inveterate garage saler. Our friends loved Mum too and adopted her as their own mother. Thank you all for your devoted support to our mum in her last days and sharing your lives with her. Reid and Alexandra have lost their biggest supporter and dearest friend. We will appreciate your attendance and memories of Edna at: Crescent Heights United Church 2756 127th Street, South Surrey, BC on Saturday, January 29, 2011 at 1:30 pm.
