Born and raised in Porcupine, Ontario, Eric moved to Fernie, British Columbia at the age of 15. After completing his high school education, Eric attended the University of British Columbia in Vancouver where he became a member of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity and earned a bachelor’s degree in political science and history. During this time, he took a job with West Isle Design, a company where he would work with dedication and commitment until his retirement in 2024.
After marrying Deanna in 1995, the couple settled in Surrey, British Columbia where they were blessed with their son, Jacob. Fatherhood provided Eric with new opportunities to showcase his many passions and talents. He was athletic and had a love for competitive games and sports, which he passed to his son by playing, teaching, and even coaching Jacob’s soccer teams. One of Eric’s notable interests was world history, a subject he delighted in sharing his expansive knowledge of whenever he had the chance.
Eric will be fondly remembered for his fun-loving spirit and quick wit. He possessed a remarkable ability to find humor in everything, from the mundane to the extraordinary, and always knew how to make us laugh. Forever following his own path, Eric remained steadfast and was not influenced by the opinions of others.
He is predeceased by his parents, Felix and Eva Romm, who imparted immense pride in his Finnish and Estonian heritage. Eric is survived by his wife, Deanna, and his cherished son, Jacob. He also leaves behind his sisters Elaine, Irene, Wilma (Ken) and Linda (Juste) as well as his nieces and nephews, Sarah, Rebekah, Bill, Robert, Katherine, Gary, Michael, Astrid, Ingrid, April and Lisa.
Eric will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His departure leaves a void in our hearts, but we find solace in the memories of his authenticity and the joy he brought into our lives. Eric's memory will live on through the many lives he touched and the laughter he left behind.
