George was born August 11, 1932, in Hardyville, Alberta and passed away peacefully at Surrey Memorial Hospital October 26, 2022, with family by his side. He moved to Surrey right after he received his apprenticeship as an autobody technician in 1965 and worked in the autobody business until his retirement.
George will be remembered for his infectious laugh and smile. To know him was to love him and call him Uncle Joe. Children, dogs, and cats would greet him with excitement because of his kibitzing and treats. Although he had fun-loving spirit, he also enjoyed his quiet bachelor life and many interests. He had a life-long passion for fishing, hunting and all sports he could watch on TV. He was able to golf right up until the end.
George was the 3rd youngest of 8 children. He is predeceased by his father Kana (1974), mother Kana (1951); brothers Art (2007), Mitzuo (1979), Edward (2005), Larry (1984); and sister Susie Makishi (2007). Also, his niece Mavourneen (2005) and nephews Roderick (2012) and Kerry (2010).
He is survived by his devoted sister, Yaye and brother Chug (Kim) and several generations of nieces and nephews. George was very committed to his family and was known to jump into his truck on a whim to visit them in Victoria or Calgary. They all feel grateful they have so many fond memories to hold in their hearts of Uncle Joe.
