George, fondly known as Garry to most, or Moe to his fellow firemen, was born January 5th 1951 in Kingston, Ontario. His parents, Harold and Violet, raised Garry along with his siblings (Gail & Guy) in Calgary, Alberta. Garry was an excellent hockey player in his youth and attended Notre Dame to play in his high school years.
He later became a Calgary policeman, then moved to the Lower Mainland and joined the Delta police force. Garry soon after became a Delta Fire Fighter, his true calling for 36 years. Like many firemen, Garry had a second job where he built houses for 40 plus years.
Garry was a mountain of a man and had a heart bigger than life. He volunteered for many things in his community such as President of Delta Minor Hockey, coaching hockey and rebuilding the East Delta Hall after a fire. Some might even say he was a part-time chef with the number of kids, hockey teams, and the homeless people he fed over the years.
Garry was a man who put his family and friends well before any of his needs. He was truly a selfless Husband, Father, Grandpa, Brother, Uncle and friend. Garry never wanted anyone to be left out and went out of his way to be welcoming and joyous. He was truly a special person.
As his Grandson Max said, “He set the bar so high it’s impossible to not want to follow it.” Garry will be deeply missed and his lovingness and kindness will be carried on by everyone who knew him.
The Celebration of Life for Garry will be held on January 25, 2023 at 1pm at the Victory Memorial Park & Funeral Centre located at 14831 28th Ave Surrey, BC. In lieu of flowers please support The Canadian Lung Association or The Salvation Army.
