Glen Morley Johnston was born on April 26, 1937, in Edmonton Alberta. His early life was spent on farms in Alberta, before his family settled into a home in Kimberly, BC. He enjoyed playing hockey in his youth and continued to play until his sixties. As a young adult, Glen joined the Canadian Air Force. In the mid-1950s he was deployed to Europe as military police during the post-war rebuilding. He met his wife, Dorothy, at a dance in England. They married in 1958, moving to France where David was born. Soon after, Glen completed his military service. He, Dorothy and David moved to Vancouver. He and Dorothy had three more children: Philip, Roderick and Annette. Glen, a skilled mechanic, worked in the field of automotive repair before becoming a mechanic instructor at Vancouver Community College. A devoted father, Glen spent much of his spare time with his children, on activities such as hockey, softball, water skiing and dirt biking. He also made sure they all had running vehicles during their late teens. Glen and his family formed valued friendships in the Killarney neighbourhood of Vancouver. They attended the local church, Faith Baptist, where Glen enjoyed singing in the choir and helping with the church softball team. After over 30 years at VCC, Glen retired at age 64. He and Dorothy bought an RV and enjoyed exploring the province of BC. After Dorothy died in 2015, Glen bought an RV site at Swan Lake, in Vernon, BC, a favorite spot for them both, and a condominium in the River District of Vancouver. He spent summers in Vernon and winters in Vancouver. He loved the Vernon community, spending time with good friends such as his neighbours Bob and Dave, and others. He became quite a snooker player, honing his skills at community centres in Vernon and in Surrey BC. Above all, Glen valued spending time with his grandchildren and children, making many great memories, including special times on his boat on Kalamalka lake. Glen is survived by his children: David (Patti), Phillip (deceased) (Sherry), Roderick (Rhonda), and Annette (Steven) Postman; and by his grandchildren: Christine, Nicholas, Jenna, and John.
