Southampton Born Singer was guided off the stage of this earth while the music she loved played on.
Grace Chandler passed away, as she wished, in her home surrounded with the love of her family, flowers, favourite things and of course music.
Grace was born in England to parents Edith and William and grew up with her siblings, Vera, Ronald, and Dorothy. Grace loved singing and started concert work at the age of 12, performing with Starlight Parade during war time. She was the soloist for a Girls’ Choir, the principal singer for productions, sang for Philip Ridgway’s Cabaret and was the Southampton Guildhall Rendezvous Singer.
She married her fiancé Ronald and in time immigrated to Vancouver, BC. They had three daughters. Grace continued to perform at the WISE Club, Kitsilano showboat, other community-based shows and for friends.
After the early death of her husband, Grace found the strength to take on the role of sole provider for her young daughters. She applied for and accepted the position to become one of the first female Jury Guards hired by the courts. She was held in high regard by her colleagues, judges and jurors.
Grace travelled extensively after meeting her new life partner, Dave. As Snowbirds they drove with their beloved dog to Palm Springs every year. Grace wasn’t a poolside sun lover but liked playing cards and bingo, getting autographs at celebrity golf tournaments, shopping and attending shows. Upon settling in South Surrey Grace joined The Red Hatters Society and other social clubs. If you needed someone to decorate the hall, she was your woman!
Grace was a softy at heart, yet strong in her beliefs, and with kindness built strong friendships throughout her life. She loved birds and especially hummingbirds. Grace adored babies and dogs, neither could escape her joy-filled smile or touch.
Grace leaves behind her partner Dave, daughters Linda, Jennifer and son-in-law Dean, Rhonda and partner Craig, granddaughter Callie, her sister Dorothy, along with nieces, nephews and friends. We know when she left us, she was lovingly welcomed by people and pets who passed before her.
In lieu of flowers please donate to BC & Alberta Guide Dogs.
The family is welcoming those that knew and loved Grace to join us in celebrating her life on Saturday, January 27 from 1:00pm - 5:00pm at the Peninsula Village Condos in the Clubhouse located at 15273 24th Avenue, South Surrey.
Remember Me
Remember me in quiet days
when raindrops whisper on your pane,
but in your memories have not grief
just let the joy we knew remain.
Remember me when evening stars
look down on you with steadfast eyes,
Remember me if once you wake
to catch a glimpse of a red sunrise.
And when your thoughts do turn to me
know that I would not have you cry.
But live for me and laugh for me.
For when you are happy so am I.
Remember an old joke we shared.
Remember me when spring walks by.
Think of me when you are glad,
and while you live, I shall not die.
