Howard Quinn was born in December 1955 and passed away at his home on May 17, 2023 at the age of 67 with his wife by his side.
He was predeceased by his mother Maureen, and is remembered by his wife of 43 years, Annemieke, his father Peter, his sisters Patricia (Mark) and Susan (Bobby), his children, Ryan (Breena), Sean (Sarah), Tess (Sean) and his grandchildren, Declan, Charlotte, Ava, Evelyn, Jude, Fiona & Leon.
In 1977 Howard decided to travel to Europe and Israel where he worked on a kibbutz. There he met his future wife, Annemieke, who had travelled from her native home, The Netherlands. They started travelling together and settled in BC.
Howard started his 30-year career with BC Hydro in 1980; interrupted by 3 years of working for Alcan in Kemano.
During his career with BC Hydro, he worked and resided in various towns across the province. The longest time spent in one location was Ladysmith, where they raised their three children. Howard & Mieke relocated to White Rock in 2008 and Howard retired in 2015. His legacy continued after retirement, as all his children currently work at BC Hydro.
Howard was really involved in his children’s sports; from starting a girls’ softball team, to getting lights installed at a park in Nanaimo, for the football team to be able to play at night.
He had many close friends from his high school days whom he kept in touch with throughout his life. They dubbed themselves the “campfire fellas” and got together for an annual camping and golf trip.
In retirement, Howard enjoyed his new hobby, carving, and was a member of the Peninsula Carvers club. Mieke, is an avid cyclist and Howard enjoyed e-biking to keep up with their cycling club. He had a keen interest in renewable energy and would happily discuss the energy generation of the solar panels on his home, and his electric car. Howard and Mieke enjoyed exploring BC and camping in their trailer. They also travelled internationally to Central America, Asia, Alaska and multiple trips to The Netherlands to visit family. Beyond his hobbies, Howard maintained a full schedule keeping up with his 7 grandchildren.
Howard is fondly remembered as a son, husband, father and opa, and we are saddened by his loss. He lived a life that touched so many. The family will be hosting a Celebration of Life in Howard’s memory.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.victoryfuneralcentre.ca for the Quinn family.
