Milina Kovacevic

Milina Kovacevic, née Erdelyon, was born to Zaharija and Rose in Hamilton, Ontario on January 20, 1949. She passed away peacefully on January 9, 2023, surrounded by family, after a period of illness. She was predeceased by her parents, her beloved sister Zorka and her brother-in-law Mihajlo.

Milina was blessed with a large and loving family. She is survived by Dusan, her husband of 48 years, whom she married on July 27, 1974, in a traditional Serbian Orthodox ceremony in Montreal. After moving to Vancouver, Milina and Dusan worked hard to build a home together and raise three healthy children. Her oldest son Jovan, daughter Zorka, and youngest son Milan carry on with her proud legacy along with her five grandchildren: Nova, Erik, Sofia, Luka and Mila. She is further survived by her extended family in Eastern Canada and the U. S. including her nephews Zak and Tim, and niece Milina, who will forever treasure her memory.

Milina was a fun-loving mother and grandmother who adored the holidays and put a tremendous effort into making them special for her family. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren above all else, never missing an opportunity to be present in their lives. Their childhood memories will always be full of precious traditions with their “Baba” at pumpkin patches, school events, community fairs and petting zoos, where she shared with them her love of animals, nature and most of all family.

Milina diligently worked as a Secondary School teacher, both in Quebec and in Vancouver, for 43 years. Her devotion to her students is widely recognized by her colleagues. Milina was often visited by former students to thank her for her guidance, a testament to her care and dedication as an educator. A talented student of Language Arts and Philosophy herself, Milina taught English and French language classes during her professional tenure, while promoting life-long learning and multilingualism by continuing to study languages throughout her lifetime. Milina will forever be remembered for her sense of humour, strength of character and kindness. She leaves us all better for having been a part of our lives.
