Munira Attieh
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our sweet lovable Mom who fell asleep in the LORD at home peacefully on June 6th 2025 in her 90th year. Beloved wife of 40 years to Nicola Elias Attieh.
Born in Jerusalem, Palestine on November 9 1935 to parents Awad Fattaleh and Hilaneh Theodossy . Munira is the 4th of 5 children . Brothers Samir, and Munir ; and sisters Samira and Hala , shared together a special bond that words can’t quite capture . Growing up in her tight-knit neighborhood she was always a joyful carefree child with many friends filling her days with laughter and fun . She applied herself diligently to school and took on the responsibility of helping in the grocery store owned by her father. Munira loved assisting her mother in the front garden where they planted flowers and in the back garden growing vegetables , like green onions, artichokes and tomatoes . Her love of nature / God’s creatures made feeding the chickens and collecting eggs and cleaning the coop a glad adventure .
At age 14 her family moved to Amman , Jordan and there by the grace of God and with the kindness of a community that looks out for one another she and her family re-built their lives. The value of family , friends and community took on a whole new meaning that would never fade .
Before coming to Canada, Munira lived in California along with 2 of her 4 siblings and enjoyed being Auntie to many nieces and nephews . There she met lots of people who she grew to love and loved her back .
Munira is well known for her delicious cooking , needlework and ceramic art. Her treasures adorn countless homes. She was a tireless worker providing for her family. She always embraced everyone with kindness and shared a thoughtful word of encouragement .
Nothing made Munira smile more than seeing the family happy together . She was always cooking fresh food ready to eat as soon as everyone arrived . Munira would always sing songs to her little grandchildren and captivate them with cute hand gestures .
Munira was a dedicated and much loved member of St. Joseph Damascene Antiochian Orthodox Christian Church and centred her life around her faith . She had nothing but love for the people in her community and always had a kind word to say .
Munira was a beautiful soul inside and out . She was a generous person and did everything she could for her family and friends . A simple and humble person. Munira dedicated her life to help those God put in her path.
Munira is survived by her loving and devoted children Julia (+ Dale) , Jasmine, Robert (+Cheryl) , Thomas (+ Tracy ) and 11 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren and loving sister Hala and the many cherished cousins and nieces and nephews in the United States , Lebanon , Europe and the Middle East.
In the words of St. Paul — Munira fought the good fight, she finished the course, and she kept the faith .
Psalm 16:8 – "I keep my eyes always on the Lord. With Him at my right hand, I will not be shaken."
May her memory be eternal !
