Myrna Blackburn (nee Bloom) was born on May 23,1948 in Duncan, BC to parents Art and Linnea Bloom of Lake Cowichan, BC. Raised in Lake Cowichan, after graduating high school there, she moved to live with her aunt and uncle in New Westminster while completing post secondary education. From there it was off to Edmonton where she worked in the Loveseth accounting department as an add punch operator. While there she was one of many residents who received a certificate from the Edmonton Journal for enduring one of Edmonton's coldest months ever recorded.
Leaving Edmonton she joined the accounting department of Fields head office in Vancouver, again as a keypunch operator, at the same time working evenings for Coast Capital Savings Credit Union. The next move was to Federated Co-Op office on Annacis lsland in New Westminster, BC. While there she married her husband Lloyd and a year later they purchased a new home in North Delta. Myrna continued to work for two years before starting their family, so they could afford the 10.5% mortgage on the home. After their two children, Jodie and Dean were in school she was able to return to work with Anipet Animal Supplies, who allowed very flexible hours for a working mother. After a few years there she moved into the accounting department where she was responsible for the accounts receivable .She was very proud of being able to keep the accounts up to date for the 30 years she worked there, helping to ensure the success of the business, while making many friends at the company as well as with customers....everyone liked her, even those she had to nag for payments.
Myrna loved attending and cheering for her kids, then later grandkids in their chosen sports. The Lions Canucks and Bluejays even had her support. Her dinners for the family were usually feasts that left everyone stuffed.
As well as cooking Myrna also enjoyed knitting, gardening, (especially flowers), and checking out the sales at thrift shops and garage sales, friends on Facebook, listening to music, (country if you please) along with a glass of wine . And nothing like a good polka to keep the spirits up.
After a prolonged and valiant battle with cancer, under the care of Surrey Memorial Hospital Nana Myrna passed peacefully on November !4, 2O23. She was very proud of her Swedish heritage and remained in close contact with many Aunts, Uncles, and cousins(1st,2nd,3rd) She cared so much about everyone she knew, it was like she carried the world on her shoulders and to know her was to love her. She is survived by the loving nieces and nephews of her sisters Barbara Kimberley(Brian) of Langford, and Carol Blatchford(Kerry)of Lake Cowichan, both of whom were a big part of her life, as she spoke with them daily, her daughter Jodie Kellington(Rich) with granddaughter Grace, son Dean(Nikki) with granddaughter Morgan, grandsons Bryson, and Blake, as well as her loving husband Papa Lloyd, his brother Wayne, his sister Audrey, his sister-in-law Gina as well as his many nieces and nephews.
Myrna's choice was for no service as she didn't care for anyone making a fuss over her. In lieu of flowers a donation to a charity of your choice or simply think of a memory of Myrna that will make you laugh, smile, or even cry happy tears for her.
She will be watching over us all.....as angels usually do!
