Nick passed peacefully away on September 26, 2020. He is survived by his beloved wife Ann, and his sister Nellie and his children Dorothy (Paul), Shirley (Darhl), Dan (Cathy), Ramona (Richard), Donna (Frank).
Opa, and his big “Opa” hugs will be greatly missed by his 17 grandchildren Liona (Aaron), Dominic (Jenny) Julia (Preston), Thomas (Hayley) Matthew (Tracy), Jessica (Mike), Elyse (Terence), Nick (Holly), Nadia (Tyler), Andrea (Ken), Nigel, Leah (Lyle), Alison (Xander), Nicola (Ashleigh), Joel, Elena, Maya, and 14 great grandchildren (Luke, Mark, Anna-Marie, Timothy, Knox, Josephine, James, Abigail, Aoife, Alora, Jake, Kyla, Harrison, Cooper, and counting).
Nick was born in Obdam, North Holland on March 13, 1930, the ninth of 12 children.
He came to Canada in 1952 and worked in North Ontario before settling in BC. Ann followed Nick to Canada and they were married in Cloverdale in December 1954.
Nick built the family home while raising five children with Ann. He worked as a longshoreman at the New Westminster, Vancouver and Surrey docks. Throughout his life he maintained a passion for gardening; he built his own greenhouse and for many years grew flowers and vegetables.
Nick had a large circle of Dutch friends and was always ready with a friendly smile and a firm handshake. He was a very social person and enjoyed conversation and dancing - which he was very good at.
Nick had a great love for Ann, his children and grandchildren, and he found great delight in his great grandchildren. He was a very special person to his family and his many friends. He will be greatly missed by all.
Your earthly journey has ended, rest now in peace Nick...Dad...Opa.
