AÑADIR UN RECUERDO
Gordon Zonailo

My name is Gordon Zonailo and I was a graduate of the second year of the BCIT Civil and Structural program. Bob Starr was my favourite instructor/teacher at any level of my overall education. Bob had a very down to earth, practical approach to engineering, always tweaked our interest and was highly respected by all of the students in our class. Bob was very inspirational to me and thus I managed to excel in the BCIT program and after graduation I wrote 21 exams through self study, while working, and became the first BCIT grad to become a registered Professional Engineer. This was possible because of the excellent education base that was provided by Bob and the other instructors. A few years after graduation I was contacted by Bob and invited to serve on the Civil and Structural advisory committee and thus had the pleasure to continue meeting with Bob for a period of about 10 years.

I was very sorry to read the obituary in the Vancouver Sun and wish to pass on my condolences, and for all of Bob's family to know that he inspired many students throughout his career and touched many hearts along our educational path!

Dear Bev and family. We are so sorry for your loss. We loved having you as our neighbors on 91b in Langley. Bob was such a kind and caring gentleman. Actually drove me to work one day when I was very pregnant and it was snowing out. Like having my Dad next door.
He will always be remembered.

Hi Bev, I'm so sorry for your loss. Bob was the ideal patient: he was always so jolly and appreciative for what I did. Mind you, I hardly ever saw him as he was such a healthy go-ahead kind of guy who gave me the impression that he didn't want to waste my time with trivial complaints.

For that matter, I do miss working with you, Bev. You were a sea of calm in a turbulent ward.

Thinking of you,
Hugh Aspinall

Bev
So sorry to read of Bobs passing. You may not remember me but we worked together at LMH I was in charge of admitting and you were my most wonderful boss. The best I ever had. Fun coffee breaks with Gloria from Emerg. Those years are great memories and I often wondered where you had gone after retirement. You have a wonderful family to hold you up Bev. Take care of yourself and God bless you at this sad time.

I was saddened to learn today that Bob has passed away. He was a great instructor and he helped many, many students prepare for their future careers, but he was much more than that.

In the way he conducted his daily life, he demonstrated to all his students and colleagues alike, how a decent, genuine and caring man should behave. I greatly admired and respected him.

He helped, and steered me to the right path many times throughout our time at BCIT.

I have many memories of him, all good. Condolences to Bev and family from Rita & Tony
