TAYLOR Roger Philip. Born June 2, 1931 in Cornwall, England, passed away at Peace Arch Memorial Hospital on July 19, 2017. He is lovingly remembered by his partner Ruby; his sons Jim (Solange), Bruce (Carie), and Peter (Chris); his 4 grandchildren Michelle, Andrew, Matthew, and Bodhi; his sister Dorothy; and, many nieces, nephews, relatives, and good friends. Predeceased by his dear son Charlie and wife of 50 years, Mary.
Born in Liskeard, England in 1931, Roger went on to study at the Camborne School of Mines before becoming a pilot in the Royal Navy. After leaving the navy, he embarked upon a career as a mining engineer beginning in Elliot Lake, Canada. He married Mary in 1958, welcomed Charlie and Jim into the world in Elliot Lake, and then moved to Ghana and Sierra Leone for seven years where he and Mary welcomed the arrival of Bruce. Roger loved his time in the Royal Navy and Africa where he made many lifelong friends. The family moved back to Canada in 1969, welcoming Peter in England along the way. In 1973, the family settled in Vancouver where Roger worked as an executive and then consultant in the field of Mining. He and Mary retired to White Rock in 1999. After a year of mourning the passing of Mary in 2009, Roger entered into a relationship with his beloved partner Ruby. They had many wonderful years together and brought together their two extended families.
Roger was a gentle, loving, generous, and thoughtful man who was committed to supporting others on their journeys through life. He had an open heart and ready ear to listen to others from an interested and compassionate place. He enjoyed the company of friends for a game of bridge, had a passion for wood carving, and loved to travel. He will be fondly remembered by his family and many friends. His family would like to thank Dr. Andre Bredenkamp and the staff of the Peace Arch Intensive Care unit who supported him so beautifully through his transition and through his earlier time in the ICU.
A Celebration of Roger’s Life will be held on Friday August 25, 2017 at 1:30 pm at the Victory Memorial Park Funeral Centre, 14831 - 28th Avenue, Surrey, B.C. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of BC & Yukon.
