Roy passed away peacefully at Peach Arch Hospital after a long illness. He is survived by his wife Jean, sister Doreen and children Andy (Susan), Deborah (Tom) and grandchildren Amanda, Tommy (Heather) and Mark. He was born in North Vancouver and joined the Royal Canadian Navy at an early age serving on board the HMCS Carlplace during WWII. He then joined his family running the Horne Bros. shingle mill in North Vancouver until the late 60s and then purchased Paine Hardware, operating the store until 1977. He loved the sea, owning several boats and cruising the BC coast as far North as Haida Gwai. He and Jean loved to travel and crossed Canada, the United States and Mexico by travel trailer and train. Roy was fortunate to have a group of very good friends who stayed in touch his whole life, sharing parties, camping trips and good times. Shortly after retiring Roy was diagnosed with diabetes, which led to his slow decline in health. Sincere thanks to the staff at Peace Arch Hospital and especially to Dr. Prentice for their care and kindness. A Service of Remembrance will be held Tuesday, June 28, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Victory Memorial Park Funeral Center, 14831 28th Avenue, Surrey. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Canadian Diabetes Foundation.
