

On the first day of his 95th year, Bill passed away peacefully at Peace Arch Hospice, White Rock, May 10 2013 surrounded by loved ones. Born in Staines England May 9, 1919, Bill grew up in and lived a long life in the Lower Mainland, loving our unique blend of trees, mountains, ocean, and a temperate climate: he called it “God's country”. Predeceased by his parents Harold & Violet, and brothers Richard (Dick) and John (Jack). Cherished and survived by his beloved wife Breda, and seven children David (Anita), Colleen, Bruce (Leslie), Ken (Brenda), Linda (Leo), Wayne, and Robert (Shyiang); grandchildren Brandon, Ryan, Jon, Nicole, Carly, Jordan, Kaleigh, and Finn; and nephews Bob, Terry, Michael, Jack, and Gordy Strong. A proud veteran of the Second World War, Bill served as a tank crew commander with the Sherbrooke Fusiliers 27th Armoured Regiment, seeing active duty in France, Holland, Belgium, and Germany. He worked for many years as a senior investigator, Customs & Excise branch, Federal Government, headquartered in Vancouver. A passionate and accomplished gardener, his roses, swiss chard, and sweet peas brought joy to many. A Visitation will be held Thursday, May 16, 6-8 p.m. at Victory Memorial Park Funeral Centre, 14831 - 28 Ave, Surrey. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, May 17, 11 a.m. at Good Shepherd Church 2250 - 150 Street, Surrey. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bill's name to the White Rock South Surrey Hospice Society (www.whiterockhospice.org).
