William Frederik Van Beek

William Frederik Van Beek (Opa or Bill)– age 91, born October 21st, 1925 in s’Gravenhage, Netherlands, residing in New Westminster, BC, Canada, passed peacefully after a brief illness, with his wife of 67 years Maria Adriana Van Beek (van Dijk) at his bedside.

Opa grew up in Holland, became a tailor, and spent three and a half years serving the Dutch army in Indonesia. On this return to Holland he married the love of his life, Mary. The family moved to Vancouver Canada in 1954, and he continued to live in the region for the duration of his life. Opa had several careers besides being a tailor, including TV repairman, and construction foreman.

Opa is survived by all his descendants including six (6) children: Agatha, Johanna (John), Bill (Enid), Maria (Rod), Anna (Dave), Gerry (Debbie). 19 Grandchildren: Cari, Christopher (Missy), Cameron (Lisa), Catrina (Dan), Colin (Travis), Michelle (Terry), Jessica (Tyson), Adam (Kelsey), James (Cassie), Christina (Brad), Bill (Michelle), Allison (Mike), Kristy (Kevin), Andrea (Ben), Katie (Ryan), Greg (Briana), Nick (Nissa), Nancy-Ann (Mark), Robert (Ashley). 16 Great Grandchildren: Geradus, Ailley, Chad, Grace, Matty, Quinton, Connor, Logan, Nathan, Brinley, Isabella, Colton, Julian, William, Jackson, Aidan.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather and will be missed greatly.

He loved, gardening, playing cards, visiting family, and spending countless hours discussing politics and history.

The family would like to thank the staff at Willow Manor and Kiwanis Centre in New Westminster, for their caring attention to Opa over the last few years.
