Zack Soderstrom was born on April 29th 1991 and passed away suddenly and tragically on January 12th 2026 at the age of 34. He is deeply and forever loved by his mother Lee Ann, father Allan, step father Stan, late grandparents Alan and Phyllis, sisters Haley and Desiree, nephew Austin, niece Alyvia and close friends Tristan and Shane plus many, many more.
Zack was a wise, generous, humble, and caring person who had a passion for cinema, art, comic books, literature, and old TV shows. One of his recent goals was to read every single novel presented in the popular 90s TV show Wishbone which featured a talking dog acting out different historical and influential novels and stories.
Zack was a wonderful child growing up that never wanted to bother anyone and was always there for people when needed. Even when he was born, he was delivered in 20 minutes, likely to cause as little inconvenience to others as possible. Zack grew up in Chilliwack and went to Chilliwack Senior Secondary school before following his passion and studying English Literature at UFV and joining the Student Union to help others.
At UFV he created a Saturday Morning Breakfast Cartoon club where students would watch cartoons while eating breakfast foods in between their classes. He made sure to tell people that the club did not actually meet on Saturday mornings because that “would be silly”. In addition, he created the UFV puppy room to help stressful students by bringing Therapy Dogs to the campus.
When Zack left University he had a few jobs including being a bartender, even though he had never drank alcohol before. His last job was working with his friend Tristan at ATS Healthcare. His love of movies was unmatched. Every weekend you could find Zack in either a multiplex or small indie movie theatre. Right before we lost him, he was working on a social media channel where he provided thoughtful commentary on film and popular TV shows.
He was a unique gift to the world. His Funeral Service will be held on January 30th to close friends and family. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider donating to the University of the Fraser Valley (UFV) Zack Soderstrom Memorial Bursary which will benefit UFV students in financial need.
