Born in Bristol, RI, the son of the late Paul H. and Leontine (Moison) Belanger he spent his youth in Bristol, lived in Fall River for several years and moved to Swansea permanently 25 years ago after having summered there at his family home, “Friendship Cottage” for many years.
Mr. Belanger worked for the United States Post Office in Fall River for over 20 years, retiring in 1985. He also worked at the former Firestone Tire and Rubber in Fall River.
A disabled veteran, he served in the United States Navy during World War II aboard the USS Iowa, USS Lagrange and USS Courage and was the recipient of the American Area, Asiatic-Pacific and European African Middle Eastern Ribbons and the World War II Victory Medal. He was a member of the American Legion Post 0314 in Fall River for over 60 years.
A man of many talents, his skillful hands were always in motion – carpentry, stonework, – whatever was needed by his family or friends.
Surviving in addition to his wife: two sons Russell A. and his wife Anne Belanger of Pensacola Beach, FL, Kenneth F.
Belanger and his wife Beverly of Houston, TX, one daughter: Sheila Belanger of Bristol, RI, three grandchildren: Eric and his wife Patty, Kellan, and Marisa, and his great grandson Drew; son of Eric and Patty.
His funeral will be Wednesday, August 10, 2011 at 9AM from the WARING-SULLIVAN HOME OF MEMORIAL TRIBUTE at BIRCHCREST, 189 Gardners Neck Rd. Swansea with a funeral mass at 10AM in St. Francis of Assisi Church, 530 Gardners Neck Rd. Swansea. Visiting hours Tuesday 4-7 PM. Burial will be private.
