

Born in Fall River, a son of the late William M. and Marie Rose (Fitzpatrick) Higgins, he lived in Fall River before moving to Swansea in 1968.
A graduate of B.M.C. Durfee High School, class of 1948, he received his A.B. degree in Economics from Providence College. He was a Veteran of the United States Army serving as 1st Lieutenant and continued as an Army Reservist. He was a member of the American legion, Post 303.
He worked as a Factory representative for various shoe manufacturers in the New England and New York area before retiring as a Sales Representative from J.C. Penny. An avid New England Patriots fan, he enjoyed going to the Pawtucket Paw Sox games, and was passionate about local politics and respected everyone’s views. He loved going to the beach especially in Cape Cod.
He is survived by four sons; Patrick J. Higgins of Chicopee, MA, J. Michael Higgins of Swansea, William S. Higgins and his wife Doris of East Greenwich, RI, Jeffrey E. Higgins of Swansea, one daughter; Donna M. Higgins of Swansea, seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was the brother of the late William M. Higgins.
His Funeral will be held Thursday, April 14, 2016 at 10:30AM from the Waring-Sullivan Home of Memorial Tribute at Birchcrest, 189 Gardners Neck Rd., Swansea, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:30AM in St. Francis of Assisi Church, 530 Gardners Neck Rd., Swansea. Visiting hours Wednesday from 5:00 to 8:00PM.
