Helen Correia

She was the beloved wife of the late James R. “Jim” Correia and daughter of the late Jesse and Dorothy (Rogers) Velozo.

Helen is survived by her children: Todd W. Soares of Bellingham, Glen Correia (fiancée, Sharon Snowdale) of Swansea and Lisa Caton of Somerset; two grandchildren, Kevin and Thomas Caton, both of Somerset; her sister, Judith Ponte of Somerset; two great grandchildren Kyle Caton and Harper Caton; along with many nieces and nephews. She also leaves her niece Kelly Cardoza and her children Krystal Medeiros and Michael Cardoza with whom she shared a special bond, her extended family Brian, Meghan and Jillian Snowdale, and many friends. She was the grandmother of the late Cassie A. Caton and sister of the late Rev. Donald Velozo, Gerald Velozo, Robert Velozo, Jesse Velozo, Jr., and Kenneth Velozo.

Helen worked for many years as a drapery seamstress at Town Curtain before retiring from Sacred Heart Nursing Home. A woman of deep faith, she was an active parishioner and devoted volunteer at St. John of God Church, always ready to lend a helping hand or offer a kind word.

Outside of her professional and spiritual life, Helen was an avid Boston Red Sox fan and took great joy in spending time outdoors. She especially loved bowling, camping, and sharing these moments with her family and friends, who brought her immense happiness. She was well known in her neighborhood as “Aunt” Helen.

Her funeral service will be held Monday, May 19, 2025, at 9:30 AM from the Waring-Sullivan Home at Birchcrest, 189 Gardners Neck Road, Swansea, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM at St. John of God Church, Somerset. Relatives and friends are invited. Visitation will be held Monday from 8:00 AM to 9:30 AM, prior to Mass. Burial with will be held in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Fall River.
