

He was born in Fall River, the son of the late Herbert B. and Mary (Broderick) Reid and was a 1941 graduate of BMC Durfee High School. Mr. Reid was a United States Navy Veteran of World War II having served in the South Pacific and received the World War II Victory Medal, American Theatre Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and the Asiatic Pacific Theatre Medal.
Mr. Reid was employed with HP Hood for 35 years, retiring as a Regional Sales Representative. He was a communicant of the former St. Michael’s Church in Swansea where he was a Lector, Trustee and CCD Teacher. Mr. Reid enjoyed an active lifestyle being an avid golfer and bowler. He also enjoyed camping and dancing.
Surviving in addition to his wife are their three children James W. Reid Jr., of Indian Harbour Beach, FL, Sharlene McGovern and her husband Robert of Barrington, RI, and Kevin Reid and his wife Sandra of DeBary, FL; three grandchildren Jennifer McGovern Giles of Barrington, RI, Colin McGovern of Roslindale, MA and Lauren McGovern of Newport, RI; a great granddaughter Olivia Giles; four siblings Mabel Wood, Mildred Boyd, Elinor Costa and Walter Reid and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Reid was also the brother of the late Dorothy Watson, Mary Williams and Robert and Herbert Reid.
His funeral will be held on Monday, August 12, 2013 at 9AM from the WARING-SULLIVAN HOME OF MEMORIAL TRIBUTE, 189 Gardners Neck Rd., Swansea, followed by his funeral mass at 10AM in St. Francis of Assisi Church, 530 Gardners Neck Rd., Swansea. Visiting hours will be held Sunday from 4 to 8PM. Memorial contributions in his honor may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 480 Pleasant St., Watertown, MA 02472. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Fall River
