My dear friend Jane remains  in my heart. We spent many wonderful  summers together and created precious memories. 

Janie, you were my second mom. You always treated me like one of your own and I loved every minute of it.. There are so many wonderful memories that are way to long to list but I will remember each of them. Ryleigh loved taking walks to go see you. I loved to hear her say "can I go see Nana"? You touched her heart and everyone with your love and kindness. You will always be missed and never, ever be forgotten. We love you.    Lori, Brian and Ryleigh ❤

Some of my fondest childhood memories are from spending a month every summer at the Cape with Aunt Bessie, Uncle Ted and Jane.  We played records (45rpm) in her room, dancing to Elvis Presley songs, walking early mornings to the Hill’s with the ground fog so thick we couldn’t see our feet, fishing off the jetty, bayberry picking. I was the younger cousin but she never made me feel like a tag along. 
Lately I have enjoyed our lengthy phone calls. We talked about everything and reminisced until one of our phones signaled it had a low battery.  I will dearly miss Cousin Jane.

 I am so deeply sorry for your loss.  I loved Edward (Ted) and Elizabeth (Bessie) Barnes.  I especially loved their daughter Jane, your wonderful mother.

The Barnes family welcomed my Bowering family into their fantastic world of the old farmhouse, the cottage with the chapel, the beach at the end of the long dirt road, and at their new house on South Sea Avenue. 

It was always so easy to be friends with Jane.  Easy because she was always so very nice and fun to be with.  What good times we had together!

The two of us often played cards such as Slapjack, Go Fish, and “I doubt it”, a game where it was ok to be devious.  We also had fun meeting up with the horde of vacationing friends for games of Monopoly, Bingo, Tripoley, Michigan Rummy or Polka. 

Lewis Bay was always an important destination for us kids.  Early on we enjoyed bouncing our way to the beach in the back of the Barnes’ old farm truck.  We also did a lot of walking - in one direction to the Windmill at Rt. 28 or in the other direction to WOCB radio station just before the security gates of Great Island.  At the radio station we became fans of Jerry and Sky of “hillbilly music fame”.  In the photo I have of the fan club Jane is the girl on the top step at the left.  She told me years later that Sky had gone into real estate then retired to Florida.  

At the end of every summer our families celebrated with a cookout, really an excuse to have Mrs. Moir’s home baked beans and Mrs. Barnes’ cranberry crisp with vanilla ice cream for dessert.

Sending you our deepest sympathies on the loss of your mother/grandmother.  May you find peace in knowing she is safe in the arms of the Lord.

Sometime around 1947 the Bowering family was fortunate to meet Ted,  Bessie and Jane Barnes at the Cape, thus beginning a lifelong friendship. We spent numerous summers together swimming in Lewis Bay, Labor Day cookouts, watching you children grow up, and stayed in touch over the years. Today I live on a piece of land formerly owned by Jane's grandparents. While we were unable to get together these last years, we continued to catch up on family activities via phone and promised that this would be the year we would get together. My sympathy to the whole family.
