Mary Jo Costa

Mary “Mary Jo” (Moniz) Costa, age 93 of Swansea, formerly of Fall River, passed away Monday, December 29, 2014. She was the wife of the late Joseph Rego Costa, U.S. Olympian and Fall River soccer player.

Born in Fall River, the daughter of the late John and Maria J. (Faria) Moniz, she spent most of her life in Fall River until moving to Swansea in 2007. Mrs. Costa was employed in the Garment Industry with several dress shops in Fall River during her youth and she enjoyed spending time with family,cooking sewing and crafts.

She is survived by three children Joseph R. Costa and his wife Betty, Patricia A. Collins and her husband Robert all of Swansea and Ronald J. Costa and his husband Frank Andrade of Fall River; a sister Beatrice Hosburgh of Fall River; a brother Antone Moniz of Westport; three grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Costa was also the sister of the late Mary Souza, Olivia Cavaco and Manuel and John Moniz.

Her funeral will be held on Friday, January 2, 2015 at 9AM from the WARING-SULLIVAN HOME OF MEMORIAL TRIBUTE AT BIRCHCREST 189 Gardners Neck Rd., Swansea followed by her Funeral Mass at 10:30AM in Santo Christo Church, Columbia St., Fall River. Visiting hours will be Thursday from 4 to 7PM.
