

Omer R. Barrette, age 86, of Swansea, passed away Wednesday, May 27, 2026, at Charlton Memorial Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Jacqueline “Jackie” J. (Dufresne) Barrette, with whom he shared 66 years of marriage.
Born in Fall River, a son of the late Charles and Lillian (LaViolette) Barrette, he spent his youth in Fall River before moving to Swansea in 1960.
Mr. Barrette worked as a heavy equipment operator for the Swansea Highway Department for 34 years and volunteered for the Swansea Fire Department.
An active parishioner of St. Francis of Assisi Church, Omer was a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society at St. Francis of Assisi Church and the former St. Michael Church. He was also a member of the St. Michael Church choir, the Lay Associates for Lasalette Shrine where he was a volunteer for over thirty years.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Steven E. Barrette and his wife Joanne of N. Anson, ME and Paul R. Barrette and his wife Cheryl of Swansea; one brother, Gerard Barrette of Swansea; six grandchildren, Audrey and her husband Chris, Lisa and her husband Zoltan, Jessica, Alisha, Lauri Lynn and her husband Bob and Michael and his partner Dolly. Seven great-grandchildren, Ava, Xavier, Landon, Mackenzie, Brady, Tyler and Zachary; and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Pauline Lima.
His funeral will be held on Saturday, June 6, 2026 at 9:00AM from the Waring-Sullivan Home at Birchcrest, 189 Gardners Neck Rd., Swansea, with a funeral mass at 10:00AM in St. Francis of Assisi Church, 530 Gardners Neck Rd., Swansea. Visiting hours Friday from 4:00 to 7:00PM. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Swansea. Contributions in his honor may be made to St. Vincent de Paul Society at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 530 Gardners Neck Rd., Swansea, MA 02777.
