

Born in Fall River, son of the late John Soares and the late Beatrice (Robinson) Worsley formerly Soares. He was a graduate of Durfee High School and Lowell Technological Institute. Mr. Soares was employed by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts as a civil engineer for forty two years. Upon his retirement he worked for FEMA for about three years consulting and estimating.
For many years he was Union Steward for the Massachusetts Highway Department and a longtime communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church. He was also a member of the Marine Reserves.
Roger’s free time was spent with his only grandson, being his number one supporter in baseball. Rain or shine or sometimes snow, if there was a game he was there. He followed Brandon from T-Ball through his travel and high school career. The two were inseparable regarding this.
Surviving in addition to his wife: one daughter; Terri-Ann (Soares) Shileikis and her husband Paul of North Dighton, MA., one son; Marc D. Soares of Swansea, one grandson; Brandon T. Shileikis, one sister; Elaine Pavao and her husband Gilbert of Tiverton, RI and several nieces and nephews
His Funeral will be Friday, November 2, 2012 at 8AM from the WARING-SULLIVAN HOME OF MEMORIAL TRIBUTE AT BIRCHCREST 189 Gardners Neck, Swansea followed by a funeral mass at 9AM in St. Francis of Assisi Church, 530 Gardners Neck Road, Swansea. Burial will be in St. Patrick Cemetery in Fall River. Visiting hours Thursday, November 1, 2012 from 5PM-8PM.
