We the family are saddened to announce the passing of our Nana who passed away peacefully on May 20, 2011 at the Miners Memorial Manor surrounded by family and friends. Born October 18th, 1912, she was a daughter of the late Robert and Margaret Dickson. Nana was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was a member of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church.

Althea was survived by three grandchildren, Alan (Karen), New Glasgow, Danny (Tara), Antigonish and Marylyn, Sydney Mines; two great-grandchildren, Zachary and Nicholas Sutherland; daughter-in-law, Gloria, Antigonish; many nieces and nephews, especially, Janice Brown and Georgene O’Flynn.

Althea was predeceased by her husband, Alan Sutherland; sons, Brian, Daniel and Harvey; brothers, Alex and Hugh Dickson; sisters, Mary Guest, Margaret Boyd, Annie Tarr, Isabel Dickson, Robena MacLean, Evelyn Aspinall, Helen Falle, Murial MacDonald.

During her time at the Manor Nana was surrounded by the most caring staff. Your compassion, love and support over the years that Nana spent with you gave us peace of mind each day knowing she was in your care. A special thank you to Dr. Doug Kolsmith for your kindness and special care.

Visitation for the late Mrs. Sutherland will be 7-9 p.m. Sunday, May 22, 2011 in Fillmore and Whitman Funeral Home, Sydney Mines. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday May 23 in St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, Sydney Mines. Rev Marion Barclay MacKay will officiate, assisted by Rev. Dr. Ian MacLeod.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Andrews Church or the Miners Memorial Manor.
