It is with a sad heart that we announce the passing of our sister, aunt and friend Elizabeth "Betty" Ross on Monday, Jan. 16, 2023 at the Northside Community Guest Home. Born to the late Charles and Gladys (Green) MacLean on May 2, 1933. Betty will be remembered for her sense of style and her strong commitment to her community. She worked for many years as a hairdresser on Main Street in North Sydney and was a longtime member of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church in Sydney Mines. She was also involved in the Harbourview Hospital ladies auxiliary group and was a past president. Betty loved doing handcrafts and decorating and she was very talented at both, winning first prize for her Christmas window display at the Bargain Store. She also enjoyed going for motorcycle rides with her cousin Bucky and shopping. No trip was complete without a stop at Tim Hortons for a cup of tea and a snack. She enjoyed her trips to PEI to visit her sister Millie and she would spend many hours talking with her lifelong friend Arlene about mutual friends and old times.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband John, sisters Mary, Ella, Frances, Mildred, Althea, Willena and Estelle and brothers Wilson, Murray and Allister. Betty is survived by her brothers Greg (Betty MacLennan) and Leslie (Germaine) as well as numerous nieces and nephews and many friends. A graveside service will be held at Brookside Cemetery in Sydney Mines on Wednesday, Jan. 25 at 11:00am with Rev. R. Robinson officiating. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family by visiting www.fillmoreandwhitman.com. The family would like to thank all of the staff at the Northside Community Guest Home for all of the care and compassion that they showed to Betty and for making her feel at home. If desired, donations in Betty's memory may be made to the Northside Community Guest Home.
