88, Ingonish Beach, N.S.
It is with sadness, we announce the passing of our Mother, Grandmother, Sister, Aunt & Friend, Mary., on March 13, 2012 at Highland Manor, Neil’s Harbour.
Born in Ingonish Beach, N.S., April 9, 1924, Mary was the daughter of the late James J. & Margaret (Donovan) Doucette.
Mary was a devout Catholic and a member of St. Peter’s Parish. Mary was a remarkable and very talented lady, honest and dependable with an abundance of gifts and talents, an excellent housekeeper, cook, seamstress, gardener and wood finisher. She and her husband “Jim”, worked hard and closely together to provide services for their own home and family, and to their community and Church. The Hospital Auxiliary and Parish Bake Sales “Fund Raisers” kept her busy and their work to the Church is still quite evident as Jim built the Altar, tabernacle and Lector stands while Mary did the finishing touches. After Jim’s passing in 1996 Mary became very ill with a brain tumor and then dementia and her life and personality took a drastic change. She could no longer do any of the work that kept her so busy and what she loved to do. It broke her heart to leave her comfortable home, but there was no other choice, she needed special care. She was well taken care of at the Manor, but her heart was at home. A special “Thank You” to the Doctors & Staff of Highland Manor and Buchanan Memorial Hospital and to everyone who was good to Mary and understood her illness.
Mary was predeceased by her husband, James Robert and her youngest son, Robert Linus; brothers, Cecil Albert, Joseph, James, Leroy and Wallace; sister, Frances Powers, brother-in-law, Frank Powers. sister-in-law, Mary (Charlie).
Surviving are her two sons: Barry (Ann Marie), Seaforth, N.S., Sheldon (Paula), Sydney; grandchildren, Jeff, Susan, Stephen, David , Paul, Jamie and Aaron; great-grandchildren Jessica and Alexander brothers, Charles (Ruth), Bert (Marion), Fred (Agnes), all of Ingonish; sister, Gloria (Harold) Jackson Westmount; sisters-in-law, Marge (Leroy) and Evelyn (James)
